Our interest in fabrics and design was delightfully stimulated by the unexpected visit to our decorating shop of an itinerant saleslady– from whom years ago we bought our annual boxes of Girl Scout Cookies. Now she was dragging huge, battered old suitcases packed with bits and pieces of home furnishings and clothing, thoughtfully sought out by her on her frequent trips through New England. From her marvelous collection we bought a variety of tasteful and refined fabric fragments and carefully set them aside. The bulging suitcase visits continued for some years and then, just as they began, they ceased - unannounced
