Polysorbate 60, also known as
polyethylene glycol sorbitan monostearate, consists of sorbitol, ethylene oxide, and stearic acid. The molecular formula of polysorbate 60 is C64H126O26. At room temperature, it is a pale yellow paste. It is an O/W emulsifier with a polysorbate 60 HLB value of 14.9. Normally, polysorbate 60 is soluble in water, ethanol, ethyl acetate, and toluene. Now, polysorbate 60 is widely used as a food additive or finisher and lubricant in the textile industry. It is often used in combination with sorbitan monostearate.
